It should be noted that where any stainless steel flexible liner is used within a chimney previously used to serve solid fuel appliances, the soot residues left on the chimney walls should be thoroughly removed when the chimney is cleaned before installing the liner. Any sooty residues left within the chimney flue have the potential, particularly when damp, to produce very aggressive acidic compounds which will attack the stainless steel liner from its outer surface.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe top of either type of liner should extend at least 80 mm above the top of the weight carrying clamp plate which must be used to secure and support the liner at the top of the chimney.
